About

"Making things is about transforming materials into something new, but it is also about transforming one’s sense of self. Creativity is a gift, not in the sense of it being a talent, but in the sense that it is a way of sharing meaningful things, ideas, or wisdom, which form bridges between people and communities."

—David Gauntlett, Making Is Connecting

This site chronicles things that I make, both large and small, whether rough or finished. Sometimes they are part of a larger project with friends or colleagues, and sometimes they are small, personal endeavors undertaken to learn something new. I try to cultivate experimentation with a broad range of skills, materials, and crafts, so you'll see everything from drawing to programming to sewing to woodcarving.

I make things because I enjoy it, but also because I consider making a key part of being a designer and human being. We shape the world into a place we care to live through a willingness to make things everyday. This site is a record of what I make, but I hope that it inspires you to go ahead make something yourself.

Anyways, I should probably just shut up and show you what I made.

I'm Norman Lau, a designer currently working in Edmonton, AB.
